Earlier this week, LPGA Tour Golfer Azahara Muñoz underwent surgery on the thumb area of her hand. Dr. Thomas Saylor of North Palm Beach Orthopedic Care performed the operation and discovered a1-inch tumor, which was successfully removed. Muñoz will be off the Tour for 3-4 tournaments, according to Dr. Saylor’s estimates.  Dr. Saylor felt the surgery was successful and he wants to monitor her scar tissue and rehab process.  Dr. Saylor stated, “Ms. Munoz is scheduled to come back to my office next week to confirm her progress but we anticipate her return to the LPGA Tour very soon but it is important that she is 100% healed and recovered before she steps on the first tee”.

Says Muñoz: “For the past few months, I have been experiencing pain and bursting blood vessels around my thumb, which was making it increasingly difficult to play. While at the Honda LPGA in Thailand, I needed medical assistance during the tournament and I finished the round in a lot of pain. Once I returned back home to the US, I began to practice and another blood vessel burst causing much pain. Immediately, I contacted Dr. Saylor and with his professional opinion and advice I elected to have surgery on Monday, March 16. I would like to thank Dr. Saylor and his staff, my fans and sponsors for supporting me during this time and look forward to returning to the LPGA Tour as soon as I receive Dr. Saylor’s blessings to start practicing and playing again. I am very appreciative for my good health and I understand that this is just a minor set back to the start of the 2015 season. I am very anxious to play and compete but I also need to follow my doctor’s orders and I am hoping to get back on Tour very, very soon.”
