Olazábal makes ‘miracles’ happen in football

José María Olazábal was locked in the Real Sociedad changing room with the players just before yesterday´s match with Espanol at Anoeta.

He was there to give a motivational ¨pep¨ talk, like the one he gave to his Ryder Cup team in Medinah. He spoke about the importance of never giving up and having a fighting spirit. Real won the game 2-1, scoring the winning goal in the 91st minute through Carlos Vela.

The talk was arranged last week at the Masters in Augusta. The President of Real, Jokin Aperribay, attends every year the first major of the season. He is passionate about golf and a big supporter of José María Olazábal – following each of his rounds.

Chema played well at the Masters, particularly over the weekend, and talk on the return trip to San Sebastian from Augusta amongst the Aperribay camp was unanimous, “what an example Olazábal is for sport.” So who better to give a motivational talk to the players in the Real changing room.

The coach of Real, Jagoba Mondragon, revealed what happened. “Olazabal gave a talk in which he spoke about never giving up and fighting until the bitter end. Seeing how the game finished, his words must have had a special impact on the players as they made a great comeback, by winning in stoppage time.¨ he said.

You see, the great master not only makes miracles happen in golf…
