The shot I’m preparing for at Pinehurst …

Yes, like the rest of Spain, I am also amazed with Rafa Nadal. What a monster! What an example for sport and for the whole world … and what´s more he plays golf. He is a role model. Forgive me for digressing, but I had to say. Thank you, Rafa.

Now about golf and Pinehurst.

I’m home in Navarra. I really wanted to come back because I’ve been a long time in America. I had never spent so many weeks away from home competing. There has been nine tournaments and three weeks off in between, a very long stretch. Furthermore, I agree that it is costing me a little. I’m not playing as well as I would like, but lately I’m better. The early season cost me, I was not hitting the ball well, and spent a lot of time thinking and trying to figure out what was happening.

It was easy to see what was happening, but when I visited my coach, Rogelio, in Texas, things improved. We stayed a week training and I have regained my game a bit. I’m hitting more greens and creating more birdie opportunities. Before, for example, I was not consitently hitting the green from 100 metres or less, which is not normal, but now we have more or less fixed this.

Next week will be a good time to implement this improvement. As you know, we play the U.S. Open at Pinehurst, right after the men. I was there a couple of days training and I already know more or less what we will find. It will be a week of patience, high performance and difficult greens. The goal for me is to hit a consistent high ball to fade and make pars. I’m sure that if you do four rounds of par you will finish very high.

The course is special, different. It is demanding. I liked the design of the holes. They have removed the left rough and have removed its links feel. What caught my attention was the friendliness of the staff.

As for playing after the men, well, it can be chore. I do not think the course will be in the best condition, although the greenkeepers are very good and certainly will do all they can. In any case, it is something we can not control and the conditions will be the same for all.

I feel like I’m close to making a good tournament and after these days with Rogelio my game will be even finer. It is true that when results do not go for you, you can become frustrated, but I think from now on I’ll play well.
