– Next Thursday, 27 March, the Texas Children’s Houston Open kicks off, a tournament where the World Number One, Scottie Scheffler, will be present. Additionally, it marks exactly three years since the Texan first reached the world throne in his career. Indeed, on Sunday, 27 March 2022, Scheffler defeated Dustin Johnson 3 and 1 in one of the World Golf Championship Dell Match Play semifinals in the morning session and then, in the afternoon, was crowned champion after beating Kevin Kisner in the final 4 and 3, a result that took the World Number One from Jon Rahm.
– When, in recent times, we all refer to Scheffler‘s dominance in world golf, we usually only refer to the years 2023 and 2024, so it is worth remembering this date because, in reality, his dominance was already much more evident in 2022, a year in which he achieved four victories and was World Number One for thirty weeks.
– Since that 27 March 2022, this great champion has been World Number One for 131 weeks. In other words: in these three years, he has only ceased to be Number One for 25 weeks, which were shared by Jon Rahm (9) and Rory McIlroy (16).
– Surely it doesn’t need to be reminded, but just in case: Scheffler is currently on a streak of 97 consecutive weeks as World Number One (from 21 May 2023 to today), for a total of 132, so he is just three weeks away from matching Dustin Johnson, who reached 135, and four weeks from surpassing him and being only behind the unreachable Tiger Woods (683 weeks) and the still distant Greg Norman (331).
– A Number One, it is assumed, has always done the necessary merits to be so. But there are Number Ones who are more so than others. This is the case of Scheffler. Since he first reached the top of the ranking, that 27 March 2022, this legendary golfer has played 64 tournaments counting towards the world ranking and has posted crazy figures, with thirteen victories, seven second places, and nine third places. In other words, since he first sat on the throne, he has won one in every five tournaments played and has finished first, second, or third in almost half of those he has played (29/64).
– A final curious note. It is evident that this year 2025 is proving challenging for Scheffler, especially compared to 2024. But it should also be noted that in 2024 he won for the first time on his sixth attempt, and this week in Houston he faces precisely his sixth attempt of 2025… In 2024 his best result in the first five tournaments was a third place, which is exactly the best result he has achieved in the current 2025…
