Hello everyone from Sawgrass. A complicated week is coming up in terms of weather. The cold and the impending water don’t worry me, I’m from Bilbao, just missing, but hopefully the storms will pass and there won’t be any suspensions.

Today I wanted to share with you a reflection that at least seems curious to me. I’ve been the world’s Number 1 for a few weeks now and there are people who have asked me if this fact has changed the treatment I receive in the United States from the public and the press.

I’ve been thinking about it and my conclusion is that it wasn’t the Number 1, but the victory at the US Open and everything that happened at the Memorial. During those two weeks there were many journalists in the United States who came to understand how I am. They probably delved deeper and got to know me better.

Before the US Open they had made a wrong conception of who I am. They thought that I was nothing more than the Spaniard who always gets angry. They believed that this is what was behind the Jon Rahm player.

However, since what happened at the Memorial something changed. They understood that the Covid thing on Saturday leading by six strokes was a huge task. And on top of that, afterwards, in the next tournament I end up winning the US Open. Their US Open.

I believe that that victory at Torrey Pines, with my family there, with everything that happened, with Kepa and all that revealed my real image. I am convinced that it was that more than the Number 1.

For the Americans it’s not easy. There are still times when they are surprised by my answers or my reactions. They don’t know the Spanish or Basque character and they’re not that interested either. I’m very direct, very from Bilbao and most of the time I say things half jokingly, but they don’t understand it very well. Little by little.

Another curious thing that I have detected from a while ago is that until the triumph at the US Open they did not give credibility to what I said. They didn’t care too much about my opinion. They only asked me if I got angrier more or less. Now, however, as I have won the US Open, it seems that what I think is worth it and they ask me about everything, even about Ukraine or any controversy or issue surrounding the Tour. It’s a curious evolution and I imagine that to some extent it’s even logical.
