There is a trap I don’t want to fall into this week

Jon Rahm abandona el Memorial el año pasado tras recibir la noticia del positivo por covid-19.

Special week. It’s undeniable. I’m playing the Memorial Tournament and I don’t think I need to remind anyone what happened there last year. Yes, exactly, the Covid incident with a six-stroke lead with 18 holes to go…

Anyway, it has probably been the strangest situation of my career and I hope nothing like it happens again. If you ask me, I’d say I’m going for my two and a half victory at the Memorial. I won in 2020, what happened in 2021 happened, and hopefully this year I can win again. Depending on who you ask, they’ll tell you I’ve won once or twice there.

Beyond word games or stories, the reality is that I feel like I’m going to the Memorial as the defending champion, but without the pressure of being the defending champion… But well, yes, the week has a bit of special spice because of what happened last year. However, the idea is precisely that none of that influences.

I don’t think going out to play thinking that the course owes me something is the right thing. That’s what I have to avoid. It’s a tough course and you have to go there and earn it, period. That’s the way it is. And you have to play golf very well.

Muifield Village is a course that could perfectly host a Major. You have to play very well from tee to green, be very strategic and you can make birdies, but mistakes also come out easily.
