Carolina López Chacarra is unstoppable in the Arnold Palmer Cup, the prestigious team competition that pits the United States against the Rest of the World. The condition to be part of one of these teams is to study at an American university. And to be among the best, of course. So far, Carolina has played three matches and won all three. Moreover, she has done so convincingly, taking no prisoners.
This Friday saw the second day of the Palmer Cup, a double session. In the morning, it was the foursomes and in the afternoon the mixed foursomes. The Internationals dominated the first session, and the Americans made a slight comeback in the second. The result, with today’s 24 singles matches still to play, is in favour of the Internationals by 16 to 20. It is being held at the Congaree Golf Club in South Carolina.
The performance of the Spanish players has been very impressive. Carolina López Chacarra won the foursome with Andrea Revuelta by a clear 6&5 and also triumphed in the afternoon mixed matches with Pablo Ereño by 2&1. The victims of the first duel were Nguyen and Pate (Chacarra and Revuelta made five birdies) and in the second match, Davis and Stout were defeated. These two victories add to Friday’s win playing with Ereño.
As it stands, Pablo has won 2.5 points out of the three he has played. He only conceded a draw in the Friday morning foursome playing with Gabriel Palacios. They tied against Duncan and Modleski in a match they had completely dominated, being 4 up after a blistering start with six birdies in the first nine holes.
Revuelta, on her part, has won two of the three points she has played. To the morning victory with Carolina, she added an afternoon defeat alongside Connor Graham. They lost 3 and 2 against Park and Turner. Meanwhile, Carla Bernat has accumulated 1.5 points out of a possible three. She tied on the first day, won the foursome with Kim by 4&3 with five birdies between them, and lost by 1 down in the mixed match with Filip Jakubcik.
The Palmer Cup will be decided this Saturday with the 24 singles matches. Carolina López Chacarra will play high up, in the fifth match. She faces Megha Ganne, Number 13 in the world amateur ranking. Pablo Ereño will contest the tenth match of the day against Max Herendeen, Number 33 in the world. Andrea Revuelta will be in the middle of the pack, match 14, against Jasmine Koo, Number 10 in the world ranking. Lastly, Carla Bernat will be in the last matches of the day, Number 22, in case she is needed to finish the job. She plays against Isabella McCauley, Number 88 in the world.
To win the Palmer Cup, the Internationals need to score eleven points in the singles.
