The noose is tightening around Team United States at the Arnold Palmer Cup, the annual competition that pits the best NCAA college players against each other in two squads: United States versus the Rest of the World. The International team won decisively this Saturday at Congaree Golf Club in South Carolina, and the overall record now stands at: in 28 editions, 14 wins for the USA, 13 for the Internationals, and one tie. Extremely close.
The International victory was ultimately sealed during the singles matches. A brilliant performance by the Rest of the World. They won the singles session 15–9, and the final overall score was 35–25. A clear and resounding superiority. The four Spanish players called up for the event played a crucial role in the win: Carla Bernat, Pablo Ereño, Andrea Revuelta, and Carolina López Chacarra. Of the 16 points contested by the four of them, they secured 12. Spectacular.
Special mention goes to Carolina, who won all four of her matches, and Ereño, who also finished undefeated with 3.5 points out of a possible 4. Revuelta claimed 3 out of 4, and Bernat earned 1.5 out of 4. Regardless, the collective performance by the Spanish contingent was outstanding in this prestigious competition.
In the singles, Revuelta came out on top in a tough match against world top-10 player Jasmine Koo, winning 4&2. She made three birdies and just one bogey—pure consistency. Meanwhile, Ereño defeated Max Herendeen 4&3, carding five birdies. Carolina also triumphed, edging out the formidable Megha Ganne 1 up. Finally, Carla, with the title already clinched for the Internationals, lost her match 1 down to Isabella McCauley. We’ll never know what might have happened had that point actually mattered for the final outcome. Understandably, the motivation changes once your team is already celebrating the victory.
Of the four Spaniards who took part in the Palmer Cup, only Andrea Revuelta remains in college. The other three are set to turn professional sooner rather than later. Ereño will play his first Korn Ferry Tour event in two weeks, following the U.S. Open. Carla plans to make her professional debut at the LPGA Tour’s Canadian Open at the end of August, as she still has several major amateur events to play. Carolina, for her part, is expected to turn professional any moment now, with potential invitations to compete on the LET or LPGA, and with the LPGA Q-School as her primary goal this summer.
