The Arnold Palmer Cup has begun. The ‘University Ryder Cup’ is already underway. United States against an International team are facing off at Lahinch Golf Club, Ireland in the 28th edition of a prestigious competition. 48 of the best amateur players in the world are competing for three days in search of the final trophy.

Since the event became mixed in 2018 and the European team opened up to the rest of the international players, the equality is maximum. Three editions for each side. The last one fell on the North American side. The international team seeks to regain the sceptre as soon as possible. The Americans have not won away from home since, precisely, 2018

In this edition, the international team has the participation of five Spanish players: Josele Ballester, Julia López Ramírez, Carla Bernat and Paula Martín. The first day played in mixed fourball mode has not been especially favourable in the matches played by Spanish players, but the total result is favourable to the interests of the international team by a tight 6.5 to 5.5.

Paula Martín has been the only national player to contribute a point to the team and has won alongside Calum Scott by a tight 2&1 to the pair formed by Preston Summerhays and Catherine Park. Carla Bernat and Josele Ballester have fought together until the end, but they ended up yielding on the 18th by a hole of distance against the pair, Mary Kelly Mulcahy and Jackson Van Paris.

The second day will be played in Foursome mode before facing the individual matches on the third and decisive day. From this Saturday in Lahinch, the international team will seek to widen the gap in the result in an attempt to regain the trophy as soon as possible.
