The Spanish golfers have once again delivered a dream day at the NCAA conference finals. The most important titles of the season are starting to be decided, and our players continue to occupy the top positions. An explosion of good results in the last few hours with special prominence for Andrea Revuelta and Lucía López Ortega, champions of the ACC Championship and the Credit Union 1 Mountain West, their respective conference finals.
The Madrid native Revuelta has made history by becoming the second freshman golfer from Stanford, after Rachel Heck, to win this prestigious tournament. It was played at the Sedgefield Country Club in North Carolina in Greensboro. Andrea’s victory was as spectacular as it was thrilling. She is the only golfer in the entire tournament to have delivered three rounds under 70 strokes (67-67-68) and achieved the win with a total score of -14.
Revuelta fought an extraordinary battle against Amanda Sambach, a golfer from Virginia who already won this same tournament in 2023 and is considered one of the best in the US collegiate scene. They played together in the final day’s featured match and reached the last hole with a two-stroke lead for the Spaniard. Andrea left no chance for her rival by scoring a sensational eagle on the 18th hole, par 5, the same result she achieved in the first and second rounds. Incredible. It is Revuelta’s first major victory with Stanford, shortly after overcoming an uncomfortable shoulder injury and after shining brightly at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, playing in the final matches alongside Carla Bernat.
In the same ACC Championship, Carolina López Chacarra finished in ninth position (74-74-68) and Paula Martín was eleventh (71-68-78).
Meanwhile, Lucía López Ortega triumphed in the Mountain West conference final, held at Mission Hills Country Club. The Mallorcan golfer from San Jose State University claimed victory with authority, delivering three rounds of 69, 73, and 69 strokes. It is her first collegiate victory, although she had come close on many occasions. In fact, in 2023 she was second in the national finals, the most important event of the year in the NCAA calendar. Lucía won by four strokes.
Additionally, Carla Bernat was second in the BIG 12 conference final held at the Houston Oaks GC. The ANWA champion delivered three rounds of 69, 75, and 69 and finished just two strokes behind the champion, her teammate at Kansas State, Sophie Bert. Also finishing in second position were Rocío Tejedo, in the SEC Championship, held at the Pelican Golf Club in Florida, with rounds of 66, 72, and 67, and Daniela Campillo, in the Sun Belt conference final, with rounds of 71, 70, and 72.
These superb performances are completed with the seventh place of Cata Fernández and the eleventh of Paula Francisco in the SEC Championship. Many conferences will now decide their team titles before facing the Regionals and Nationals.
