The two-year qualification period for the men’s golf competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has concluded with the publication this Tuesday of the definitive Men’s Olympic Golf Ranking. A total of 60 players have qualified, representing 32 different countries.
The qualification system was as follows: the top 15 in the world ranking with a maximum of four per country and, from there, a maximum of two per nation until reaching 60. The United States is the only one that will have four representatives, the four best ranked: Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Wyndham Clark and Collin Morikawa. The tournament will be held at the Le Golf National in Paris from August 1 to 4.
The qualification period began on June 17, 2022 and concluded after the US Open, on June 17, 2024. The host country -France- had at least one place guaranteed, as did each of the five continents of the Olympic Games, although in the French case two got in through qualification: Matthieu Pavon (No. 12 in the world) and Victor Perez (No. 30).
This summer’s competition marks the fifth time that golf has been an Olympic sport and only the third since 1904. Only four men have qualified for each of the last three Olympic golf competitions: Ryan Fox from New Zealand, Gavin Green from Malaysia, C.T. Pan from Chinese Taipei and Fabrizio Zanotti from Paraguay.
