The Staysure Marbella Legends is already underway. The tournament that opens the Legends Tour calendar has been officially presented at Aloha Golf Club, the venue this week for an event that brings together great names of European golf such as Miguel Ángel Jiménez and José María Olazábal and once again puts Marbella in the international golf spotlight.
José María Olazábal did not want to miss the presentation and highlighted the experience of competing in the south of Spain: “It is always very pleasant to come here. You have great courses, extraordinary weather, and unbeatable hospitality. It will be a very special tournament.”
Miguel Ángel Jiménez, ambassador of the tournament and promoter of its celebration at Aloha on the occasion of the club’s 50th anniversary, emphasised the atmosphere: “Aloha is one of the best courses and clubs, not only in Spain or Europe. Here people feel comfortable from morning until night, and that is fundamental.”
The presentation was attended by institutional representatives and organisers, in a launch that made clear the strategic importance of the event both in sporting and tourism terms.
The president of Aloha Golf, Rafael Fontán, highlighted the condition of the course after several weeks of adverse weather. “After three weeks of completely extraordinary rain, the course is in perfect condition and we are going to enjoy a spectacular tournament. It is an honour to have Chema and Miguel Ángel here,” he noted.
Fontán emphasised the club’s effort to present the course in its best version and encouraged fans to come and enjoy the spectacle.
The general director of the Legends Tour, David Adams, quantified the competitive level of the tournament: three major winners —José María Olazábal, Paul Lawrie and Michael Campbell—, senior champions like Miguel Ángel Jiménez and Colin Montgomerie, 15 players with Ryder Cup experience, three captains, and nearly 700 international victories accumulated among all participants.
“It is fantastic to start the season like this in Marbella, enjoying the weather, the gastronomy, and the organisational level that we always find here,” Adams pointed out.
For his part, Ryan Howsam, president of Staysure and the Legends Tour, recalled the company’s personal connection with the city: “I founded Staysure in Marbella in 2005, so for me, it is like being at home. We are proud of our alliance with the tour and to present this season a new image and new audiovisual content about our players.”
The president of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, Pablo Mansilla, defended the region’s positioning as a reference destination: “It is a joy to have the legends of European golf competing here on the Costa del Sol, undoubtedly the best place in the world to play golf.”
