Ana Peláez has been disqualified from the AIG Women’s Open. The player herself has announced it through her social networks.
The reason is that the caddie of the Malaga player, Miguel Evangelio, has used the laser on holes 10 and 18 when the use of such a meter is not allowed at this event. There is no option to appeal the decision as the rule is clear on this matter.
A real shame as in her sixth Major it seemed that she was finally going to make the cut. After five previous failed attempts, Peláez finished her second round at Saint Andrews with a cumulative of plus two and was going to sneak into a Grand weekend for the first time in her career. Upon arriving at the clubhouse, they have communicated the news to an Ana who has tried to take the news in the best possible way.
Both the caddie and the Spanish golfer assume the blame for not having read the Open regulations and having assumed that the laser was allowed. It should be remembered that both in the LPGA tournaments and the Ladies European Tour they can make use of the meter. Even in three Majors (Evian, Chevron and PGA) it is allowed. The US Open and the Women’s Open are the only two events on the calendar that prohibit the use of this meter.
Ana says goodbye to the Open earlier than she would have wished and for a painful reason that they will undoubtedly take a long time to forget, but from which the Spaniard has wanted to take the positive and with a smile from the first minute. Chapeau.
