The Asian Tour is entering the final part of its schedule. This week, the International Series Thailand is being held at the Thai Country Club in Bangkok. After this, there will only be four tournaments left to finish the season, aside from the grand finale in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, it’s time to start securing objectives and not leave everything to the end.
Carlos Pigem (-12), the only Spaniard who started the season with the Asian circuit card in his pocket, aside from the LIV Golf players who have free rein to come and go as they please to these tournaments, has arrived in Thailand in great need, sitting at 107th in the order of merit when the top 65 retain their playing rights. Therefore, he urgently needs to earn points.
Things are going well after three rounds. Pigem is in tenth place in the tournament after delivering three very solid cards of 67, 65, and 66 strokes. He has made only two bogeys in the last 36 holes and faces a final round this Sunday that could be almost decisive for his aspirations to retain his card. Specifically, a top 10 finish would bring him very close to that coveted 65th place, while a top 5 would almost secure the objective.
Pigem is just two strokes away from second place and five from the lead held by LIV’s American Peter Uihlein (-17). In other words, he is making a more than interesting move this week, although obviously, there are still 18 holes where he will have to finish the job. Finishing among the top ten would be a giant step that should be completed in the coming weeks. This week, he is putting very well, and his short game is very sharp. Today, specifically, he finished the last nine holes with a great performance with the irons and was a bit more erratic from the tee.
In the upper part of the leaderboard, there are also the Indian Rayan Thomas (-14), the Australian Maverick Antcliff (-14), the Filipino Miguel Tabuena (-12), the American John Catlin (-12), and the Thai David Boriboonsub (-13). The Granada native Scott Fernández also played in Thailand with an invitation but missed the cut after a bumpy finish to the second round.
