– The Australians Will Florimo (-7) and Michael Pearce (-7) lead the Final Stage of the Asian Tour School after the first round, a tournament held on courses A/B and C/D at the Lake View Resort and Golf Club in Thailand (both are par 71). Interestingly, Florimo played today on the C/D course and Pearce on the A/B, although judging by the overall results, it seems that the A/B is somewhat more ‘friendly’ for the competitors.
– Carlos Pigem (-5) is currently at the top of the leaderboard after carding a 66 and delivering a bogey-free round on the A/B course. A performance that closely resembles that dream start in such a demanding competition as this, clearly within those top 35 places that will grant playing rights on the Asian circuit for 2026 once the five mandatory rounds in this event are completed. The truth is that Pigem had already been playing very well, even slightly better than his recent results suggested (which have not been bad, mind you) in the Asian Tour.
– Eduard Rousaud (-1) also played the A/B course, and his score of 70 strokes in this first round places him in 50th position, currently just one stroke away from that benchmark that will set the 35th position throughout the week.
– It should not be forgotten that there will be a cut after the second round, including the top 140, and another after the fourth round, including only the top seventy. In this regard, the other two Spanish players present at the event are already under more pressure. Agustí Quinquilla (+3), winner of the preliminary stage of this School, and Alejandro Cañizares (+3), did not have a particularly great performance on the C/D course. Their first major objective now is to make the cut tomorrow, which includes the top 140 and ties, and they certainly have it within reach (currently, the +2 total marks that cut line, and they are just one stroke away). From there, they would still have ample room for improvement in the next two rounds.
