– The year 2024 is coming to an end and it’s very interesting to check how things are going in the world amateur ranking, if we are to take stock. We will do this by looking up to the top 1,000 worldwide, to get an idea of how the forces are distributed beyond the classic top 100.
– The United States is the great dominator, with a galactic difference over its pursuers. It places 362 male players within the top 1,000 and 258 female players, for a total of 620. To give us an idea: no other country even reaches 100, adding both rankings, male and female.
– Watch out for China. Right now, it is the second country with the most players within the top 1,000. There are 48 boys and 41 girls, for a total of 89. It is true that they only have one male and one female player within their respective top 100, but it is obvious that they are gaining a lot of ground.
– And pay close attention to Thai amateur golf. They have 28 men in the top 1,000 and 51 women, for a total of 79, only behind the United States and China. Japan, with 15 men and 63 women, is the fourth power.
– Spanish golf is in good health. According to the top 1,000 criteria, it is the fifth male power, with 21 players, only behind the United States (362), China (48), England (35), and Thailand (28). In the top 1,000 female ranking, there are currently 28 players, the same as Canada. There are seven countries with more female players than Spain in the top 1,000: the United States (258), Japan (63), Thailand (51), South Korea and China (41), France (36), and Australia (35).
If we add both top 1,000, male and female, Spain totals 49 and only eight countries add more: the United States (620), China (89), Thailand (79), Japan (78), England (59), South Korea (54), France (52), and Australia (51).
– South of the United States, in the American continent, that is, Central America and South America, Mexico currently imposes its law, with 17 players in the top 1,000 male ranking and 14 female players, for a total of 31. It is followed by Argentina (25).
– The evolution of Czechia is also noteworthy, with 9 players in the top 1,000 male ranking and 19 female players, for a total of 28, ahead of Scotland (22), Denmark (21), or Ireland (19).

– If we refine more in quality and focus on the top 100 worldwide male and female, Spanish golf fares even better, thanks especially to the girls, as we currently have 7 in that top 100: Andrea Revuelta (world number 7), Paula Martín (13), Cayetana Fernández (23), Carla Bernat (24), Carolina López Chacarra (30), Rocío Tejedo (34), and Lucía López (93). To them, we should add from the top 100 male José Luis Ballester (5) and Pablo Ereño (19), for a total of nine players in the top 100 worldwide.
– Only the United States (97) and Japan (15) add more than Spain in both top 100 worldwide, male and female. Not bad at all.
