The final battle of the TGL has begun. Atlanta has made the first move to win the first-ever edition of the TGL.

The team captained by Patrick Cantlay has won the first match of the best-of-three series after a tight 6-5 victory over New York. They are just one step away from achieving it. The decisive conclusion will be played tonight at the SoFi Center.

New York, with Xander Schauffele, Rickie Fowler, and Cameron Young at the helm, must win both matches tonight if they want to be crowned champions… Alongside Patrick, Billy Horschel and Justin Thomas will try to prevent it.

The great hero of the night was Cantlay, who sank the decisive putt on the last hole to give his team the victory. Schauffele had the chance to send the match to a playoff, but he missed his two-metre putt. Another standout of the night was Billy Horschel. First, because he was a metre and a half away from achieving a hole-in-one, and second, because he sank the putt that started Atlanta’s comeback when they were down 4 to 2.

Beyond competitive pride, triumph in the TGL means taking home a prize of nine million dollars, which is shared among the tournament’s champion team. Each squad is composed of four players, so each champion golfer will receive 2.25 million dollars. Viktor Hovland for winning the Valspar this week has taken home 1.75 million. Not a bad haul, and to which each will add what they have negotiated by contract to participate.

The runner-up will receive exactly half. 4.5 million in total for the team and 1.12 each for the four members.

Both teams have already announced that they will maintain their line-ups for this Tuesday, and therefore, substitutes Lucas Glover and Matthew Fitzpatrick will also not be part of the final conclusion.
