Adri Arnaus signed his best result in more than two years this Sunday in Ajman. The golfer from Moià finished in fourth position in the UAE Challenge and made a good leap in the Race to Mallorca. It was one of those Sundays that boost you mentally and spiritually.
From a mental standpoint, Arnaus needed a final round of reaffirmation. The Spanish player has delivered good scorecards here and there throughout the year, but hadn’t managed to finish, as happened in India. Therefore, the final round of 67 strokes on the last day in the United Arab Emirates is a step forward. “I am very happy. I went out with the idea of reaching -17 and I came very close. Above all, I played differently, with a different attitude, more aggressively. I felt that other times I was short with the putt and I told myself I had to play differently. It went well and we have to continue in this line,” he says to Ten Golf heading to Al Ain, where the HotelPlanner Tour is taking place this week.
Arnaus started working at the beginning of the year with Liam James and he really likes what he sees. There are still things to polish, when is there not in this blessed sport, but he has noticed very important advances with the irons and now needs to adjust the drive a bit more. With the putter, things went very well for him last year and last week he felt comfortable again on some spectacular greens that were at 12 on the stimpmeter. Little by little everything is falling into place.
“I have been working a lot in recent months on the tee to green game and had somewhat neglected the putt. However, in recent days I have paid more attention to it and have noticed the difference,” he explains. In any case, what he is most satisfied with in the work he is doing with Liam James is feeling more in control. “I understand my swing better and why things happen. That is very important to me because when a bad shot comes out, I understand better what happened and I can fix it for the next shot,” he notes.
It was also a Sunday to lift the spirit. As soon as he arrived home, residing in Dubai, he sat in front of the television to watch the final round of the Masters. It is just an example of the passion that Arnaus feels for his sport and profession. He thrilled with a historic day. Let’s keep in mind that with the time change, the tournament ended at four in the morning in Dubai. It was worth it. “I was convinced that Rory McIlroy was going to make a birdie on the 13th hole and I might have gone to bed, but after the double bogey, I stayed until the end. It was very exciting. Very beautiful,” he says.
The final round of the Masters was fuel for Adri’s motivation. It’s not that he needs much to get fired up, but McIlroy’s excitement is contagious. “Watching the outcome several times, the desire to be there someday crossed my mind. That’s what I want. I want to play the Majors again and especially the Masters because it’s the only one I’m missing. It’s a dream, an aspiration, and on Sunday it was reaffirmed even more,” he notes.
No one knows better than Arnaus that these paths are taken step by step. The first thing is to give continuity to what was seen last week to continue climbing the circuit ranking. The next is to ascend to the DP World Tour by finishing among the top 20. Little by little. Rory said on Sunday that dreams can come true when you have the desire and put in all the work.
