Big week on the HotelPlanner Tour. The Hangzhou Open, taking place this week in China, marks the final cut before the Grand Final of the Road to Mallorca, which will be held from 30 October to 2 November at Alcanada Golf with the top 45 of the year. High stakes all around.
No one, or almost no one, wants to miss the event. In fact, from the top 45 in the ranking, only Daniel Van Tonder (9th) will miss the event. The crucial moment of the year has arrived. The tournament also comes with a special incentive: the chance to achieve a historic record for the Armada.
Currently, four players have secured their presence in Alcudia: Quim Vidal, Rocco Repetto Taylor, Sebas García, and Adri Arnaus. The latter, positioned in the 38th place in the ranking, practically has his ticket to Mallorca guaranteed. They could be joined by a very solid group of compatriots fighting this week in China not to miss the train to Alcanada.
Santi Tarrío, arriving at the Hangzhou Open in 44th place, is currently in, although he needs to make the cut to maintain his position among the top 45. Behind him, Albert Boneta (47th), Lucas Vacarisas (55th), Víctor Pastor (56th), and Borja Virto (65th) still have mathematical chances of getting in. Boneta needs at least a top 40; Vacarisas and Pastor, a top 7; and Virto, at least a fifth place to dream of qualifying.
The historic record of Spaniards who have played the year’s final is held by the class of 2006, when six Spanish players —Rafa Cabrera Bello, Ivo Giner, Álvaro Quirós, Álvaro Salto, Jesús María Arruti, and Juan Parrón— competed in the event in San Domenico (Italy). In 1997 and 1998, there were five Spaniards in the final event. This year, the number could even be surpassed. The task is very challenging; matching the feat of 2006 would be good news, but why not dream of surpassing it?
If luck and play are on their side, Spain could reach up to nine representatives in the Mallorca Final. Although that figure is not realistic, the mathematics do not prevent it. Five is a great number; in fact, it has only been achieved three times, six would be outstanding, and surpassing it would be exceptional.
Additionally, qualifying for the Final of the Road to Mallorca not only means competing for one of the 20 DP World Tour 2026 cards, but also gaining direct access to the final of the European Tour School at Infinitum Golf (Tarragona), bypassing the second stage. In sporting and professional terms, it’s a huge qualitative leap for any player.
The Spanish dominance on the circuit has been evident throughout the season. Currently, Spain is the second country with the most players within the top 45 of the Road to Mallorca, only surpassed by the six English players. It’s true that a final push is needed not only to be in the final but also to break into the top twenty of the year, honour positions only reached by Quim Vidal and Rocco Repetto Taylor.
