On a grey and windy day, where the cut line did not improve by a single stroke, the second round of the Farmfoods Scottish Challenge supported by the R&A was played today at the Scottish Newmachar Golf Club. A Friday in which Ángel Ayora (-5) has squeezed the most out of his golf to face the weekend fully involved in the fight for victory and in which four other Spanish players have managed to pass the cut and will be able to continue in the tournament.
The player from La Cañada, who started the tournament with a par round, has completed today a significant comeback with four birdies, an eagle and a single bogey, starting from the 10th tee, to place himself in the 14th tied position of the classification, just four strokes from the leaders, the Scotsman Jack McDonald (-9) and the Dane Lucas Bjerregaard (-9), one of the two players present at this event who know what it is to win on the DP World Tour (in his case, he won the 2017 Portugal Masters and the 2018 Alfred Dunhill).

In addition to Ayora’s great 66-stroke card, the Armada added other good news, such as the 68 from Borja Virto (-4), tied in 24th place, the 69 from Quim Vidal (-3), the 70 from Emilio Cuartero Blanco (-2) and, above all, the 68 from Alejandro Cañizares (-2), who started Friday forced to recover strokes to be able to continue playing the weekend and with a round with three birdies without a mistake gives himself a new opportunity to keep looking up in Aberdeen.
Less lucky were Javier Sainz (PAR), winner of this event two years ago, who playing the morning shift signed a card of 73 strokes with three bogeys and a single birdie that leaves him out of the cut by a single stroke, as well as Alejandro Aguilera (+1), Albert Boneta (+2), Álvaro Quirós (+3), Joel Moscatel (+5), twice winner this season on the Challenge and who had a bad week, Jorge Maicas (+6) and Álvaro Hernández (+6), forced to pack their bags early.
