El Danish Golf Challenge, tenth event of the season on the HotelPlanner Tour, has started poorly for the Spaniards. The weather has not been favourable at the Bogense Golf Club, with several players describing the playing conditions as “brutal”, especially on the first nine holes. Although two of our players have barely managed to withstand a challenging day on a course making its debut on the circuit, the overall outcome has been quite disappointing.
Only Lucas Vacarisas (-1) and Albert Boneta (-1), one of those affected by the delay, were able to play under par. Both delivered identical scorecards of 71 strokes, with five birdies and four bogeys each. A result that, while allowing them to position themselves among the top 25 in the rankings, does not help them close in on a lead that has surged to no less than seven strokes in the blink of an eye in a round that could not be completed in full due to lack of light.
The Scotsman Calum Fyfe (-8), ranked 67th on the Road to Mallorca before the tournament began, was the one who best managed to make the most of his tee time this Thursday in Denmark (teeing off at 12:30 local time) with an eagle, two birdies, and a bogey on his first nine, starting from the 10th tee, and a true display to close his round with five birdies in his last six holes of the day to take the lead with a three-stroke advantage over his pursuers. The Dane Jonathan Goth-Rasmussen (-6) is second, also alone, ahead of the Frenchman Aymeric Laussot (-5) and the Swede Per Langfors (-5).

Fyfe, aged 27, has been competing for several seasons in the second tier of the DP World Tour, where he is approaching half a hundred tournaments. But to date, he has never won or achieved second or third places. His spectacular start to the tournament, with a round of 64 strokes, puts him in an excellent position to attempt a significant leap in the overall circuit standings at an important moment in the season.
The rest of the players from the extensive representation of the Armada did not start well on this course with a certain resemblance to the famous British links, dotted with bunkers ready to catch any mistake. Adri Arnaus (+1), who struggled initially starting from the 10th tee, managed to salvage his scorecard with a couple of birdies in the second half of his round, although his deficit with the leader in just 18 holes is already nine strokes. He will have to fight tomorrow to make the cut while also trying to look upwards.
In the same situation are Borja Virto (+2) and David Borda (+2). And much more in need of birdies are Alejandro Cañizares (+4), Santi Tarrio (+4), Javier Sainz (+4), and Quim Vidal (+5), who struggled with this first round at the formerly known Hans Christian Andersen Golf Club where the last three holes, the par five 16th, the short par four 17th, and the par three 18th, present both a challenge and an opportunity.
