Santi Tarrio, Albert Boneta, Lucas Vacarisas, Víctor Pastor and Borja Virto are competing this week for their qualification to the grand Final in Mallorca of the HotelPlanner Tour. They are doing so in China, specifically at the Hangzhou Open, the last tournament before the final event in Alcanada. The top 45 in the Road to Mallorca qualify for the Final, and none of the five have it guaranteed at the moment. They are playing it all on one card.
Qualifying for the Final in Mallorca, besides still allowing the dream of one of the 20 cards awarded for the DP World Tour through the ranking, allows skipping the second stage of the European Tour School and directly accessing the final at Infinitum Golf. It is no small achievement. It increases the chances of securing a first-division card in 2026.
The Hangzhou Open, played on the course of the same name southwest of Shanghai, overlooking the East China Sea, starts this Thursday and will be the last chance to get into the top 45 of the ranking. In this battle, we have the five Spaniards mentioned at the beginning of this article, and these are their calculations to enter. We tell you the minimum they need to have a mathematical chance. From there, the better the result, the more likely they are to qualify regardless of what other players do.
– Santi Tarrio is in 44th place, so he is currently in. However, he must play well, at least make the cut, to avoid being overtaken by two players and missing out on the grand final. The Galician arrived in China this week directly from the Open de España.
– Albert Boneta is in 47th place, less than 14 points from the 45th place held by Max Kennedy. The golfer from Barcelona needs to finish at least in the top 40 to have a mathematical chance.
– Lucas Vacarisas is in 55th place in the Road to Mallorca. To have a chance of getting into the top 45, he will need to finish at least in seventh place alone at the Hangzhou Open.
– The same goes for Víctor Pastor, who is in 56th place, just behind Vacarisas. A solo 7th place at least.
– Borja Virto has the toughest challenge. The Navarrese is in 65th place in the Road to Mallorca and will need to finish at least 5th to have any chance. It is a demanding result, but by no means out of reach.
These five Spaniards are looking to join those already qualified. Specifically, there are four who have already secured their presence in the Final in Alcanada, which takes place in two weeks. They are Quim Vidal, Rocco Repetto, Sebas García, and Adri Arnaus. Of all of them, the first two also have their DP World Tour card well on track. Sebas and Arnaus, therefore, should take advantage of this penultimate tournament of the year to give another boost to their position in the Road to Mallorca and get into that top 20 or, at least, get even closer. Sebas is just on the brink.
Last year at the Hangzhou Open, the Malagueño Ángel Ayora finished in second place, only behind the Irishman Connor Purcell. Additionally, Borja Virto was top 30, Joel Moscatel top 35, and Lucas Vacarisas, Quim Vidal, and Víctor Pastor missed the cut.
