The Norwegian Andreas Halvorsen (-19) has made good use of the lead he had going into the final day of the Danish Golf Challenge to claim victory. A scorecard of 71 strokes, one less on the day, was enough to comfortably beat his closest pursuers. Although comfort is almost never a given in high-level sports…

Just ask Halvorsen, of the same generation as his compatriot Viktor Hovland (he is 27 years old and only nine months older than him), although with very different trajectories. It’s almost a given: not everyone is born with the mark of a great champion and contender for everything, as is the case with Hovland. But the fact is that Halvorsen is also now daring to put Norway on the map, just like Viktor and even Kristroffer Ventura, who is doing very well this year on the Korn Ferry Tour.

Everyone has to start somewhere and a victory on the Challenge Tour, the first for Halvorsen, is no small feat. For starters, it will help him to position himself within the top ten of this circuit’s ranking, and he will also reach his best position in the world ranking, entering the top 500. Far behind are now those first seasons of his as a professional in which he sought fortune in the PGA Latin America and PGA Canada, without too many good results, before returning to more familiar latitudes: Halvorsen made a clear quality leap last year in the Nordic Golf League, a European satellite circuit, where he won up to two tournaments and made the jump to the Challenge Tour. From here, we will have to see if he really continues and becomes a firm pillar of the emerging Norwegian golf.

Joel Moscatel (-12) was the best Spaniard in the final classification, although he probably wasn’t very satisfied. He went out to play this last round at the Odense Eventyr Golf with some chance of victory, five strokes behind Halvorsen, but ended up signing a scorecard of 73 strokes, one over par. Satisfied or not, at least Moscatel managed to put an excellent finishing touch and leave with good feelings, as he closed his round with a birdie on hole 17 and an eagle on 18, gaining thirteen positions in this last and electric final sprint to just reach the tenth position.

It is also worth highlighting the performance of Borja Virto (-11, round of 70), who needed to start scoring points this season with more determination and, indeed, has signed his best result of the year (13th), perhaps as a prelude to much better times. Ángel Ayora (-8) closed the week with a convincing record of 68 strokes, although at times it seemed that he would be able to go much further, as he was setting a very strong pace, with a partial of five under through the first nine holes of the Danish course. Javier Sainz (-6) did not have his day (round of 76 to finish) and Víctor Pastor (-3) beat the course on the last day (71 strokes).
