Luis Masaveu (-12) made another outstanding comeback in the last nine holes on Sunday, but it was not enough to finish in the top 10. The Madrid golfer carded a 70 in the final round of the German Challenge powered by VcG and finished in eleventh place. It is his second-best result of the year on the HotelPlanner Tour, only surpassed by the third place he achieved at the Challenge de España.
Masaveu started off a bit stuck. The first nine holes at the Wittelsbacher Golfclub were once again challenging for him, but he managed to straighten things out in the next nine. Another great reaction. After going +1 from holes 1 to 9, the Spanish player made four birdies between holes 11 and 15 to turn things around. It’s a good result, although it doesn’t significantly change his situation in the second division of European golf. It places him in 63rd position, still a bit far from the Final in Mallorca, which the top 45 qualify for, and even further from the 20th position, which will earn a tour card at the end of the season. Initially, Masaveu does not appear among the participants in the next HotelPlanner Tour event, which will take place next week in Scotland.
Luis finished far from the winner, South African JC Ritchie (-24). This victory has indeed changed his life on the tour, as he has moved into second place in the Road to Mallorca, only behind young Englishman Joshua Berry. It cannot yet be said that he has secured a DP World Tour card for next year, but he has certainly taken a giant step. This is Ritchie’s first victory this year on the HotelPlanner Tour and the fifth of his career. Additionally, he has achieved a second, a third, and two more top 10 finishes that allow him to be so high up. He won the tournament convincingly, with an eight-shot lead over the second-place finisher.
As for the rest of the Spaniards, Sebas García (-9) secured a spot among the top 25 with a final round of 70 and four rounds under par, while further back were David Borda (-8) and Santi Tarrio (-4). For now, two Spaniards remain among the top 20 in the HotelPlanner Tour ranking: Quim Vidal, eleventh, and Rocco Repetto, sixteenth, both winners this year on the circuit always known as the Challenge Tour.
