The HotelPlanner Tour has entered the final third of the season with the start this Thursday of the Farmfoods Scottish Challenge, and Quim Vidal continues to deliver impressive rounds. Specifically, at the SCHLOSS Roxburghe in Scotland, he has carded a round of 64, matching his best result of the season. He started in January with a round under par, and here we are almost eight months later with a bogey-free -7. Sensational. He is in second place, three shots behind Englishman Will Enefer (-10), the standout of the day who included two eagles in his round.
Vidal is well on track for the DP World Tour card, but he knows he still needs to give it a push and is not inclined to leave things to the last minute. The sooner, the better. His round today was a marvel of balance. He shot four under on the first nine (from 10 to 18) and three under on the second, making the most of the three par 5s. He is tied in second place with German Marc Hammer and Scotsman Daniel Young.
The performance of the Armada in Scotland has been more than notable. Beyond Vidal’s impressive card, the starts of Borja Virto (-4) and Albert Boneta (-4), embedded in the top 25, as well as Javier Sainz (-3), Álvaro Quirós (-3), and Adri Arnaus (-2), all comfortably within the provisional cut, should be highlighted. The rest have left work for tomorrow, some more than others. Santi Tarrio (-1) also beat the course, while Sebas García, Rocco Repetto, and Lucas Vacarisas made PAR and are within reach of the cut.
The situation is more complicated for Javier Calles (+1), Joseba Torres (+2), Alejandro Cañizares (+3), or Asier Aguirre (+5). All of them will need a very good round this Friday to ensure four days of play.
A great start also for the leader of the Road to Mallorca. Englishman Joshua Berry (-6) has positioned himself at the top from the outset, showing that he does not want to give up his privileged position easily. The South African Daniel Van Tonder (PAR), winner of the first two tournaments of the year and who had not been seen on the HotelPlanner Tour for many months, has not been very sharp in this start.
