Rocco Repetto (-12) has delivered a remarkable card of 63 strokes this Saturday at the Open de Portugal at Royal Óbidos and has created a sensational chance of victory. It would be the second of the season. The golfer from Málaga has moved into second position, one stroke behind the lead held by the veteran Scotsman David Law (-13).
It has been a great round for Repetto, although nothing that could surprise those following his season. Saturdays are ‘Roccotazo’ days. He is a master of the moving day. The numbers speak for themselves. He has two consecutive Saturdays in the HotelPlanner Tour, or in other words, twelve consecutive cuts made. Well, his average strokes in the third round is 67.58. The figure is spectacular. To give you an idea, the average of Scottie Scheffler on the PGA Tour is 68.03, counting, of course, all rounds. The best average on the DP World Tour right now is Rory McIlroy and it’s above 69 strokes.
Repetto has signed off an excellent day from start to finish. He passed the first nine holes with a score of four under par, counting three consecutive birdies between holes 5 and 7. His only bogey of the day came on the 10th, but what could have seemed like a setback turned into a catapult. From 11 to 14, he linked four consecutive birdies and added one more on the 18th, after a great bunker shot. A round of 63 strokes. The tenth under 70 strokes on a Saturday. Ten out of twelve.
Repetto is seeking what would be the second victory of the season and, in the process, to practically mathematically secure his promotion to the DP World Tour by the end of the year. Let no one forget that Rocco started the year on the Alps Tour. His season, no matter what happens tomorrow, is being sensational.
Rocco will not be the only Spaniard with a chance of victory this Sunday at the Royal Óbidos in Portugal, although he has the clearest opportunity. Quim Vidal (-9) and Sebas García (-9) will also have their chance after scoring 72 and 70 strokes today, respectively. It wasn’t a good day for Vidal, but he managed to save it and stay in the fight, while Sebas has improved to also leave himself an opportunity.
Great round also for Albert Boneta (-7). The player from Barcelona has delivered a magnificent card of 65 strokes, the third-best of the day after Repetto (63) and Enoch (64) and has placed himself two strokes from the top 10. He remains within reach of the Mallorca final, and a good Sunday could bring him much closer. It’s worth noting considering he is balancing between the DP World Tour and the HotelPlanner Tour.
Finally, Borja Vorto (-6) has entered the top 20 with a very good card of 67 strokes, Luis Masaveu (-4) occupies the 31st position, and Santi Tarrio and Adri Arnaus (+2) have had a tough day with cards of 74 strokes each.
