Trio of Spanish aces to fully enter the fight at Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge. Joseba Torres (-7), Rocco Repetto Taylor (-7) and Lucas Vacarisas (-7) are tied among the top ten of the tournament at the halfway point.
Three players, three very different ways of doing it. Without a doubt, the standout name of the Armada is Lucas Vacarisas. Only Oliver Farr (-8) has played lower than the Spaniard with a card of 65 strokes.
The day has been immaculate. A round of six under with as many successes and no mistakes. That’s how you play Le Vaudreuil. Lucas achieved his only victory on the circuit on French soil and wants to fight, why not, for his second triumph in these lands. If not, he will also fight for his fourth top ten of the year. He has been missing out on finishing a week with a great haul of points. Beyond his victory almost two years ago, he doesn’t know what it’s like to finish among the top three in a tournament in the more than 90 tournaments he has played. Vacarisas faces the weekend with tasks and maximum enthusiasm.
Joseba Torres, for his part, continues to add up. He feels comfortable in the PGA of France and is proving it. “It’s a fun course,” he tells TenGolf, and his results are backing him up. The consistency of the Basque player is beyond doubt. He is barely playing his sixth championship on the HotelPlanner Tour and it is his fifth cut made, only last week did he miss the weekend. In his first three tournaments, he finished in the top 25 of the tournament. He is looking for a little step further and to achieve, why not, the first top ten of his career.
Rocco Repetto Taylor has overcome his major challenge in this round of his start on the circuit; if on Thursdays he averages 69 strokes, Fridays are the day that has been costing him the most. In fact, in the last three tournaments, he hadn’t managed to play under par and beat the course. This Friday he did it and with quite a margin. The round was a rollercoaster of emotions with eight birdies, four bogeys, and just five pars. That’s Rocco, he goes for it all, no matter what. A round of 68 strokes and to keep looking the other competitors in the face.
The standout leader in the classification is Robert Sciot-Siegrist (-13). The local player is proving unbeatable and has opened a small gap of strokes with Daniel Young (-10). 36 holes are a whole universe, and the Spaniards have plenty of room to fight the six-stroke disadvantage they face at the moment.
Another four players have made the cut in France, with merit since they needed to gain strokes on the course this Thursday. However, all of them are far from the leading positions. The round of 68 strokes by Luis Masaveu (-2) stands out, who is tied with Quim Vidal (-2). Just on the cut line inside finished Sebas García (-1). Those who will not be part of the weekend are Santi Tarrío (+1), Borja Virto (+2), Adri Arnaus (+3), Juan Salama (+3), David Borda (+4) and Víctor Pastor (+9).
