The young Austrian Maximilian Steinlechner (-21) has achieved his first victory on the HotelPlanner Tour by winning today at the Interwetten Open with a Sunday card of 64 strokes, five under par for the day, confidently defending the lead he held at the start of the day. Steinlechner marks his first win, therefore, in his homeland and more specifically at a course, the Schladming Dachstein Golf Club (Oberhaus, Austria), which significantly deviates from the standards of modern golf, as it is a par 69 with a length that doesn’t even reach 6,000 metres.
This player had already shown more than just good form, as he arrived at this event ranked 18th in the Road to Mallorca (now he has moved up to third), and with this triumph, he practically secures promotion to the top division, the DP World Tour, next season. A bogey by the Austrian on the 16th hole of this final round, combined with an immediate birdie by JC Ritchie on the 17th, still added excitement to the finish, as the South African was then just one stroke behind the leader, but the local player finished strongly and calmly, making a birdie on the 18th, par 5.
It was not a good final day for Quim Vidal (-12), who started today three strokes behind the leader and with serious chances of victory, but who delivered a card of 70 strokes, one over par for the day. Javier Sainz (-14) ended up being the best Spaniard (15th) with a final round of 66 strokes, a more than decent result that, however, did not help him gain positions on the leaderboard, such was the scoring demand. Rocco Repetto (-13), Adri Arnaus (-12), and Santi Tarrio (-12) did climb up, especially the first of them, who delivered one of the best rounds of this final day, with six birdies recorded on a bogey-free card.
