Álvaro Hernández Cabezuela (-8) has signed the best result of the day in the third round of the Indoor Golf Group Challenge, a tournament of the Challenge Tour that is being held at the Landeryds Golfklubb in Sweden. The golfer from Tenerife has handed in a card of 65 strokes and has placed himself in the fifth position of the general, with an option even of victory this Sunday. He is five strokes behind the leader, the Swede Mikael Lindberg (-13), and only two from the second place held by the Northern Irish Dermot McElroy (-10).

Not only has it been the best result of the day, but Álvaro has signed the best round of his career in the Challenge Tour and has tied his best ever result in the DP World Tour, which dated from the Tenerife Open in 2021, when he made 65 strokes in the second round. In some way, it can be said that the Canarian player has uncorked this Saturday the jar of essences.

It seems that he was eager for the moving day, as he had nine consecutive cuts missed in the Challenge Tour. The last time he played a Saturday in this circuit was in July of last year. Today he has somehow compensated for so much time of drought. Álvaro has made seven birdies and a solitary bogey, taking advantage of the four par 5s of the Swedish course. The goal now is to continue this phenomenal attack on Sunday. Only 18 holes remain and the Spaniard has the opportunity to register the best classification of his career. He has not yet climbed to the top 10 in this circuit and this is his 29th tournament.

Álvaro is the only one of ours with options of victory. Despite everything, it is necessary to highlight the performance of Javier Barcos (-3), the amateur from Navarra who is playing the second tournament of his career in the Challenge Tour and who remains in the top 25, after having handed in today a card of 70 strokes. He has made four birdies and three bogeys.

Further back are Javier Sainz (-1) and Ángel Ayora (-1), who made 73 and 71 strokes, as well as Emilio Cuartero (+2) and Alejandro Cañizares (+3), who signed 73 and 76 strokes. All of them still have room to manoeuvre in the last round to climb positions and make a good harvest of points thinking about the Road to Mallorca. Sainz and Ayora, for example, are five strokes from the top 10, a very demanding objective but in no case unattainable. Precisely, Álvaro Hernández has shown the way this Saturday.
