This week the HotelPlanner Tour visits a unique location. Golf Bluegreen Pléneuf Val André is considered one of the best and most picturesque courses in Brittany, offering stunning views along the coast. The course is set on cliffs and has a links style, with deep rough bordering the wide fairways. The Blot Play9 has been part of the HotelPlanner Tour calendar since 2007, and Golf Bluegreen Pléneuf Val André has consistently provided a challenging test for players, especially when the strong coastal winds blow. Only one Spaniard has managed to win on this course, it was Álvaro Velasco back in 2016.
Undoubtedly, the signature hole of the Breton course is the impressive par five of the 11th hole. It measures 478 metres, located on the edge of a cliff, and offers sensational views of the sea. The wide fairway invites an aggressive tee shot parallel to the English Channel, although players must be careful not to curve the ball too much towards the beach, especially when the wind blows strongly across the channel. A good tee shot gives the opportunity to attack the well-defended green in two shots.
The tournament will feature the presence of eleven members of the Armada: Rocco Repetto Taylor, Juan Salama, Borja Virto, Javier Calles, Javier Sainz, Santiago Tarrío, Lucas Vacarisas, Joseba Torres, Sebastían García, Victor García Broto… and Luis Masaveu.
The latter is undoubtedly one of the standout names of the week. The Madrid native is embarking on a new stage. The day zero of a new era. After closing his chapter in LIV Golf, at least as a main player of the Fireballs, he competes this week in France. It is true that Luis is likely to play some tournaments as a reserve in the Saudi circuit, but he must look forward and undoubtedly the first step in this era is to focus efforts on securing the DP World Tour card. A few weeks ago, he already told TenGolf that he was setting in motion plan B for whatever might happen, and now it certainly seems like plan A.
It is only his second tournament of the year, but judging by how he performed in the Challenge de Cadiz, the outlook is not bad for Luis. Just one event played and he finished in a brilliant third place. Just one event and he is in 64th place on the Road to Mallorca. One step away from the top 45 who make it to the Final de Alcanada.
The major leaders of the circuit have decided to take this week off. Neither Renato Paratore, nor Van Tonder, nor Berry nor Vidal are participating in France. In fact, no top ten player is competing in Brittany. The circuit is almost reaching the halfway point of the season and barely takes breaks until October. The rest of the players have a good opportunity to gain points on the Road leaderboard.
