At the official presentation of the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship held today at the Antiga Fàbrica Estrella Damm the presence of Ángel Hidalgo, Eugenio Chacarra, Rafa Cabrera Bello, Adri Arnaus and Jorge Campillo, has also been confirmed, stars who will strengthen the Spanish line-up at the Real Club de Golf El Prat from 7 to 10 May.
These players join Pablo Larrazábal, Nacho Elvira and Ángel Ayora in Barcelona, in the tournament’s debut in the Race to Dubai 2026 as the first event of the European Swing and the Road to the 2031 Ryder Cup.
Ángel Hidalgo is looking to regain the fine form that led him to claim the Open de España presented by Madrid en 2024. The charismatic 27-year-old from Málaga prevailed in a thrilling play-off and earned both his first title on the DP World Tour and the favour of the fans.
His victory in the Open de España made him one of Spanish golf’s emerging figures and playing in Barcelona with the support of the crowd will be an additional incentive to rediscover his best golf.
“Tengo muchas ganas de jugar el Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship”, Hidalgo said. “Every time we have the chance to compete in Spain it is something very special. The support of the crowd always lifts you, and playing on a course like the Real Club de Golf El Prat makes it even better”.
Eugenio Chacarra, a young promise turned undeniable reality, is another of the stars who will compete in Barcelona. The former world No. 2 as an amateur claimed his first DP World Tour title by winning the Hero Indian Open in 2025, already showing his impact at the professional level. This impressive victory was followed by his recent runner-up finish at this year’s edition of the same tournament.
“Siempre es un privilegio representar a España”, Chacarra said. “We have a great golfing tradition and I am very proud to take part in this new tournament in Catalunya. I am sure the atmosphere will be incredible and I can’t wait for it to arrive”.
Together with these young talents will be Rafa Cabrera Bello, one of the most experienced Spanish players on the DP World Tour and winner of four titles: the Open de Austria 2009, the Omega Dubai Desert Classic 2012, the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open 2017, a Rolex Series event, and the Acciona Open de España presented by Madrid 2021, a victory that fulfilled one of his childhood dreams.
The Canarian, who made his Ryder Cup debut in 2016, is very excited about his presence at the Real Club de Golf El Prat.
“Playing at home is something you never take for granted”, he said. “Spanish golf fans know a lot about the game, they live the sport with great passion, and they always create a fantastic atmosphere. It is great news that there is a new tournament in Catalunya and I am very excited to be there in May”.
Arnaus, one of the local favourites, recorded his first DP World Tour win at home in the Catalunya Championship in 2020 after a spectacular six-hole play-off, and is keen to compete again in front of his public as the circuit returns to Barcelona.
“It is a pride that a tournament like this comes to Catalunya”, Arnaus explained. “Playing at home, especially at a venue like the Real Club de Golf El Prat, is always very special. I trust we will see many fans giving us their support and that it will be a fantastic week for Spanish golf”.
Campillo, with three DP World Tour titles to his name and remarkable consistency in recent seasons, completes the formidable line-up of Spanish players just unveiled. The 39-year-old has always performed well in Spain and will aim to make his mark in Barcelona.
“We do not have many opportunities to play in Spain during the season, so when we do, it is something special”, Campillo said. “The Real Club de Golf El Prat is a magnificent course, and I think it will be a great test. It will surely be a fantastic week for Spanish golf”.
