Tommy Fleetwood has confirmed his participation in the ACCIONA Open de España presented by Madrid, which will take place at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid from 26 to 29 September. A few days ago, it was Matthieu Pavon who announced that he would try to defend last year’s title, now it’s the Englishman’s turn. The world number eleven adorns an edition that promises a lot. Big names are expected to join the tournament in the coming weeks.
Just ten days ago, Tommy was awarded the silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games. The seven-time champion on the DP World Tour is excited to play the tournament for the second time: “I am looking forward to returning to the ACCIONA Open de España presented by Madrid this September,” Fleetwood assured. “It’s a city I love to visit, and the atmosphere at the Club de Campo a couple of years ago with the Spanish fans was incredible. It’s always special to compete in historic tournaments and I’m excited to experience it again. I hope to play great golf”.
The always smiling Fleetwood, one of the most popular golfers among players and fans, has a victory on the Challenge Tour and seven on the DP World Tour. With three participations in the Ryder Cup, he has a record of 7 wins, 3 draws and only 2 losses, including the 2018 performance where he and his partner Francesco Molinari made history by winning their four matches at Le Golf National and gave Europe the definitive point just eleven months ago at the Ryder Cup held in Rome.
The English golfer won his first professional title at the 2011 Kazakhstan Open on the Challenge Tour. After obtaining the DP World Tour card, his first victory on the main European circuit came in 2013, at the Johnnie Walker Championships at Gleneagles (Scotland). Then four years would pass until his next victory, at the 2017 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, and since then he has been synonymous with success, with victories at the 2017 French Open, the 2018 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the 2019 and 2022 Nedbank Golf Challenge, the 2024 Dubai Invitational and his recent silver medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Tommy Fleetwood currently ranks 11th in the OWGR.
