Alone with the champion and the trophy of the Dubai Invitational

Nacho Elvira attends the DP World Tour at the 18th green to wrap up the live broadcast of his great victory. Shortly after, he speaks with Sky and, again, with the European Tour colleagues for the rights-holding broadcasters worldwide.

Next is the awards ceremony, the speech, ovations, thanks, more ovations, (Abudullah Al Naboodah, the driving force behind this tournament and president of Dubai Basketball, thanks Nacho’s words with a bow), photos and more photos, a thousand photos, maybe two thousand, who knows, and signing a few Dubai Invitational flags for sponsors and commitments. All while lugging a very beautiful and heavy trophy. Winning can be very tough.

“Is there anyone left to take a photo?” says the always super-efficient press officer of the DP World Tour, Briony Carlyon. No one responds. All good… Well, not entirely. Manu Elvira, quietly, without drawing attention, very much like Manu, confesses to us that he hasn’t taken one alone with his brother. He’ll have time. That won’t be a problem. After all, they are sharing accommodation next week during the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. By the way, their parents are also coming, it was planned beforehand. What a party they are going to have. More than deserved.

Nacho exudes kindness to everyone. Not a single bad face. He does it even in tough times, imagine after winning. Also when he stops with Ten Golf. “Whatever you need,” he tells us with a smile. We are the only Spanish media at the Dubai Invitational and his willingness is appreciated. We are left alone with the champion. It’s a little over seven minutes.

Nacho radiates happiness, quite a bit of calmness, and a lot of emotion. He will never forget what happened this Sunday at the Dubai Creek Golf Club and it’s not so much because he beat Rory, Fleetwood, or Lowry, which he did, but because for the first time his daughters saw him win. That was his dream and he has fulfilled it. It’s an interview in which he especially exudes humanity. Judge for yourselves.
