Second week of the first stage of the DP World Tour School. Two new tournaments. They are played in Belgium, the second consecutive stop at the Hulencurt course, and in England, specifically at the Huddersfield Golf Club. In both tournaments, we have five Spaniards in the running, four in Belgian lands and a lone wolf at the British venue.
This Tuesday, the first round was played, and the trail to follow is that of Alejandro Alonso (-2). Great start. Very solid. He made three birdies and only one bogey and has provisionally placed himself in sixth position, perfectly positioned in the hot zone. This week in Hulencurt, the top 18 and ties advance to the second stage. The 18th place after the first round is at par.
Very close to the target is amateur Josep María Serra (+1), as well as fellow amateur Pablo Alperi (+3). Both will need to push to get through this first stage, but they have it well within their grasp. On the other hand, Luis Carlos González (+6) has already made it very difficult for himself. In fact, his first goal should be to make the cut today after the second round.
In a similar situation to González is Thomas Artigas (+5), the only Spaniard competing in Huddersfield. The situation has become very complicated. The first thing will be to play well today to try to make the cut. At this English venue, the top 16 and ties qualify. Right now, it is at a PAR result. Artigas will have to play with all guns blazing.
The goal is to follow in the footsteps of Borja Martín, the only Spaniard who managed to advance to the second stage last week in the first tournaments of the School.
