– The Open de France taking place this week is the first of the last five tournaments of the regular DP World Tour calendar, before the event in Abu Dhabi, where only the top seventy in the Race to Dubai qualify, and the Final in Dubai itself, where only the top fifty qualify. These are: Open de France, Alfred Dunhill Links, Open de España, DP World India Championship, and Genesis Championship in Korea.
– Currently, there are only three Spanish players within the top fifty. Two of them, Eugenio Chacarra (27th in the Race) and Ángel Ayora (31st) are well on track to qualify for those last two tournaments in the United Arab Emirates, if not already assured. Another, Jorge Campillo (49th) is currently on the edge regarding the goal of the Dubai Final, which would be the eighth he has played in his career and in the last ten seasons (2016-2025), further proof of his remarkable consistency.
– The point, in any case, is that it’s not so difficult to see the Spanish Armada’s glass half full, with these five tournaments to play, as right now another seven players are positioned between 52nd in the Race and 74th: Del Rey (52nd), Rahm (54th), Manu Elvira (55th), Cantero (62nd), Cabrera Bello (67th), Hidalgo (72nd), and Larrazábal (74th).
– The last of these seven, Pablo Larrazábal, is currently 263 points away from 50th place. To give us a rough idea: with the points distributed in these five tournaments (5,000), a solo third place is worth 312 points… Everyone can do their own calculations, knowing that, obviously, each player not only depends on themselves but also on what others accumulate. Remember that a solo fifth place is worth 212 points and a tenth place, 100 points.
– In this whole equation, Nacho Elvira should and must be included, who is currently in 83rd place in the Race, 309 points from 50th place and only 74 from 70th place.
– Since the European circuit final has been held in Dubai (since 2009), six has been the maximum number of Spanish players who have participated. This happened in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, and 2022. More than six have never played. The minimum has been three (2021). Thus, in this 2025, as things stand, we are realistically and objectively facing two almost opposite possibilities: exceeding that top figure of six, even by a wide margin, since there are three players in and up to eight more have a lot or some margin to get in, if we count Nacho Elvira; or breaking the negative record and having only two Spaniards in the Dubai final. It all depends on how hot or cold this autumn turns out to be.
– Chacarra, Ayora, Campillo, Manu Elvira, Cabrera Bello, Hidalgo, Larrazábal, and Nacho Elvira are present this week at the Golf de Saint Nom la Breteche, near Paris, where the French Open is being played. From the current Race to Dubai, twenty of the 25 players ranked from 26th to 50th are present on French soil. People don’t want surprises, and as every year, there will be jostling to get into the exclusive final tournaments.
