Hideki Matsuyama continues to write new chapters in his successful career. The Japanese player, 2021 Masters champion and current world number 17, has confirmed his participation in the Genesis Championship, which will be held from 23 to 26 October at the Woo Jeong Hills Country Club in Cheonan. It will be the first time Matsuyama competes in two regular DP World Tour tournaments in the same season, excluding Majors and World Championships.
After playing the BMW PGA Championship, the Japanese player has confirmed on his social media that he will play the tournament held in South Korea. Earlier this year, Hideki claimed his eleventh PGA TOUR title in Hawaii, winning decisively at The Sentry against Collin Morikawa, and by 2024 he had already secured a prestigious victory at the Genesis Invitational in Riviera. Additionally, he is a regular at the Presidents Cup, having competed in six consecutive editions since his debut in 2013. He will be seeking his first victory in the DP World Tour in a regular tournament.
The Korean event will feature an interesting lineup, as Matsuyama will be joined by three of the major Asian golf figures and Presidents Cup teammates: Byeong Hun An, Sungjae Im, and Si Woo Kim, local idols who will be looking to shine in front of their home crowd.
“I am very excited to play in Korea at the Genesis Championship. I always enjoy testing myself on new courses around the world and I know a great challenge awaits me with so many local favourites in the field. I would love to end 2025 with a good result and add my name to the list of champions at Woo Jeong Hills,” said the Japanese player.
The course designed by Perry O. Dye has a long competitive tradition: it has hosted the Kolon Korea Open of the Asian Tour 21 times and has seen victories from figures such as John Daly, Vijay Singh, and YE Yang.
The Genesis Championship will also be a crucial event for DP World Tour players, as it is the last tournament of the regular season before the Play-offs in the United Arab Emirates and will determine which players finish within the top 110 of the ranking to secure their 2026 card.
