And the thing is that Quim couldn’t stop thinking about those seven putts…

Quim Vidal (-3) has joined David Puig (-3) and Rocco Repetto (-3) as the leading Spanish players in this Friday morning session at the Turkish Airlines Open. The three are locked in a battle to finish the day inside the top 10. It will depend on the conditions. Certainly, at the end they were aiming for that.

For now, Vidal has secured his fourth consecutive cut on the DP World Tour, his best run since he has been in the top flight. On the HotelPlanner Tour last year he even managed seven in a row between February and May. Those are good months for Quim.

It’s a fact that the Catalan golfer’s momentum has changed. He has gone from two cuts in his first eight tournaments to four in a row. However, he prefers not to make a fuss about it. “Nothing has really changed, if anything I have a bit more confidence, these courses suit my game a little better, maybe the grass, but not much else. It’s golf. I was playing well before, but for whatever reason, a bogey here and another there, I would miss the cut, without doing anything too wrong, and now I don’t”, he said.

You know, the golf gremlins. In any case, things are going better for Quim Vidal. He comes off two consecutive top-20s in India and China and, above all, from being up there throughout the week. That cannot be a coincidence.

Today he played well again, although Quim actually couldn’t get out of his head the chances he had let slip. “I’m happy because I’m playing well, the course is firm and windy, but I feel I’ve left a lot of strokes out there. Specifically, over two days I have missed up to seven putts from under three metres and that’s a lot”, he says.

On the other hand, it’s not too hard for him to take a more positive view. “The good thing is that despite letting so many opportunities slip I’m up there, that’s true too”
