The 2025 season on the DP World Tour, concluded this Sunday with the grand final held at Jumeirah Golf Estates, has marked the beginning of what will surely be an extraordinary sporting career at the elite level for Ángel Ayora. The golfer from Málaga, in his rookie year, has shown he is capable of competing for great achievements, coming close to securing one of the 10 cards for the PGA Tour that the circuit awarded through the Race to Dubai.
The Spaniard arrived at the grand final of the European tour after accumulating no less than nine top-10 finishes throughout the year. Victory still eludes him, but with the level of play he has shown in this first adventure on the tour and with the experience he is gradually gaining, successes will soon come as a reward for a high-level golf game, with a broad mastery of all aspects of the game.
In the DP World Tour Championship, which he finished in a commendable tied eighth place (hindered, admittedly, by three bogeys in his last nine holes that prevented him from competing for the card achievement), Ayora showcased his tremendous driving power from the tee, his aggressiveness with irons to aim for flags, and his good reading of greens. These characteristics already position him as one of the great hopes of Spanish golf for the coming years.
He needed a second or third place, depending on the result of some of his opponents, to qualify for one of those 10 PGA Tour cards. It wasn’t to be, he fell just short, only four places away from achieving it. But the learning experience will surely help him return stronger in 2026 in pursuit of that prize that will allow him to make the leap to the American circuit and with the challenge of competing for victories. And on the horizon, his first major, the Open Championship, which he qualifies for as one of the top 25 in the overall ranking.
