Dean Burmester, Darren Fichardt and Dan Bradbury will play the 152nd Open at Royal Troon after topping the podium at the Joburg Open that has opened the season of the DP World Tour, along with the Australian Fortinet.
An impressive final round of six under without bogeys helped local Burmester to achieve victory at home in the first event of The Open Qualifying Series. He started the day three strokes behind Thriston Lawrence and ended with a three-shot lead over his compatriot Fichardt and five over Bradbury, who won this title 12 months ago.
Burmester has appeared in The Open twice previously, at Royal St. George’s in 2021 and at the 150th Open at St. Andrews in 2022, when he finished eleventh. Fichardt will make his first appearance in this Major since 2017 while Bradbury did not make the cut in his debut last year in the oldest Major in the world.
The next event of The Open Qualifying Series is the ISPS HANDA Australian Open at The Lakes & The Australian in Sydney between November 30 and December 3, 2023. The 152nd British will be held from July 18 to 21, 2024.
