Jorge Campillo (-9) wants to return to the Olympic Games at all costs and today he has taken a giant step towards Paris. There is still a lot to be decided and it’s not all in his hands, but Jorge will not lack an ounce of fight.

This morning, on the second day of the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed, the Extremaduran player handed in a card of 67 strokes that put him in the provisional second position of the tournament, at the time these lines are written. With this result, Campillo would be in the Games surpassing the one who until now holds the second national Olympic place, David Puig. Jon Rahm has his place completely assured at Le Golf National.

Jorge needs to finish the tournament among the top seven to overtake the Catalan and right now he is in a privileged position to do so. However, we must not forget that David Puig will play the US Open and would have the opportunity to regain his position in case he loses it this week.

Campillo started his round today at hole 10 and he did it like a rocket with four birdies in the first seven flags. The Caceres player has had a more than solid day with the irons considering that four of the five birdies of the day have been with putts under four meters. It’s a shame the birdie that escaped him on the penultimate flag of the day, after not being able to take advantage of a great iron shot that was just two meters from the hole. The only bogey of the day came at the beginning of the second round after going to the right rough off the tee and not being able to have a second accurate shot. His second shot fell short and in the rough and Jorge could not sign the approach and putt.

Another Spaniard with chances to play the Games is Nacho Elvira (-5). The Cantabrian only needs a victory to surpass Puig and this morning he handed in a great card of 66 strokes, the best of the morning shift along with Soderberg. He has placed himself within the provisional top 20, but he has the leader ten strokes away. Nacho will have to fly very low tomorrow if he wants to give himself a chance of victory.

Who seems to have said goodbye to the Olympic dream is Adri Otaegui who needed a top 10 this week to have any chance and with a second round at par he doesn’t seem to be able to make the cut in Sweden.

What now seems a utopia for Jorge and Nacho, is the first position. Sebastian Söderberg (-15)  does not want to let the victory at home slip away and after yesterday’s 63 strokes, this morning he handed in a card of 66 strokes for a total of fifteen under par. Sebastian has been knocking on the door of victory for several weeks and does not want to miss another opportunity. He is breaking down the door without knocking.
