– We are going to answer the question in the title with all sorts of data and curiosities, but first, we can tell you that it is not precisely the case of Kenya, a stop on the DP World Tour this week. European Tour tournaments have been played there seven times, and Spanish golf has lifted its heavy trophy once. It was Jorge Campillo in 2023.
– The DP World Tour has visited a total of 51 different countries in its 54-year history. In alphabetical order, from Germany to Tunisia. The most frequently played country has been England (253 tournaments), followed by the United States (209, including majors and WGC), and the third spot on the podium is occupied by Spain (196). Get ready because in 2027 we will reach, at a minimum, the figure of 200. There are only four countries where it has been only once: the Philippines, Fiji, Argentina, and Bulgaria.
– We answer the question in the title: Spain has not yet won in 19 of those 51 countries. In other words, it has won in 32. This means that Spain has achieved at least one victory in 62.74 percent of the countries visited by the European Tour. This season, we could still tick off two more new boxes: Turkey and Denmark. We missed out on Mauritius and Bahrain, where Manu Elvira and Sergio García came close. The rest of the destinations visited this year on the DP World Tour have been conquered at least once by the Armada.
– The country where Spaniards have won the most tournaments is… Spain. Correct. No big surprise. It is true that there is no law saying that playing in your country gives you an advantage over the rest, you don’t start with one stroke less because of it, but it is obvious that there are several circumstances that favour it, among others the knowledge of the courses, the comfort of being ‘at home’, and the fact that the number of Spaniards participating is greater. In Spain, there have been 48 victories by 17 different players. Seve Ballesteros, another ‘big surprise’, is the one who has won the most with ten, followed by José María Olazábal with eight and Sergio García with seven.
– There are five countries where Spanish golf has achieved more than 10 victories. Joining Spain are England (24), France (17), the United Arab Emirates (13), and Germany (11). As for the number of different Spanish players who have won in each country, behind Spain is the United Arab Emirates with 10. Curiously, Nacho Elvira broke the quadruple tie at nine that existed with England, France, and Portugal in January.
– Speaking of Portugal, in the neighbouring country, Spain has achieved nine victories by nine different players. Here the great curiosity is that despite having so many different players who have won across the border, none have managed to repeat so far.
– Of the 10 countries where Spain has achieved the most victories, there is only one where Seve Ballesteros never managed to win. The rebel is called Italy. On the other hand, there is a country where only he won, but he did so on three occasions: Sweden.
– In the DP World Tour, a total of 2087 tournaments have been held throughout its history. The Magical Kenya Open will be the 2088th. Of all of them, there has been Spanish presence in 2026. Well, of those 2026 where the Armada has had at least one chance of victory, 211 have been won. This means a victory percentage of 10.41%. I don’t know what you think, but off the top of my head, it’s an incredible feat. A country like Spain, in more than half a century, has won one in every ten tournaments played on the DP World Tour.
– The European Tour has produced 624 different winners. The latest to debut was Jayden Schaper. Surely, the name Patrick Reed came to mind quickly, but the American counts his Masters and his WGC. The Majors and the now-defunct World Championships are included in all these data we are providing. Of all those different winners, 37 are Spanish, or in other words, 5.92%. This translates to having players who have won a lot, such as the DP World Tour record holder Seve Ballesteros, José María Olazábal, Sergio García, or Miguel Ángel Jiménez. That’s why we double the percentage of victories compared to winners.
– Of the 19 countries where Spain has not yet won, there are three particularly significant cases: Malaysia, Czech Republic, and Denmark. These are where the DP World Tour has been the most without the Armada planting its flag. In Malaysia, 22 tournaments have been played, in the Czech Republic, there have been 17, and in Denmark, we are at 12. Remember that we are always talking exclusively about the DP World Tour, as David Puig won in Malaysia in 2024, but it was a tournament on the Asian Tour. These three are the only destinations with more than ten visits from the DP World Tour where a Spaniard has never won.
