The First Stage of the DP World Tour School left a very notable piece of news for the Armada this Friday: David Borda secured qualification at Golfclub Schloss Ebreichsdorf (Austria), where the cut was set at the top 18 and ties. The Navarrese player, already seasoned in these matters, managed the week with skill —patience on windy days, control from the tee, and a putter that appeared when most needed— to get into the Second Stage and prepare for another battle at the end of October.
Borda finished with a total of -5, with rounds of 70, 66, 72, and 67. A great reaction on the final day to recover from a third day where things didn’t go well, to the point where he fell out of the target. At this same venue, José Antonio Sintes (PAR), who was four shots off the target, Juan Salama, Alejandro Aguilera, and Mario Galiano played but did not advance to the next stage.
With his qualification for the next stage, Borda joins Borja Martín, Pablo Ereño, and Scott Fernández, the three Spaniards who had so far passed this first stage.
At Frederikshavn Golfklub (Denmark), a parallel venue for this round of the First Stage —14 and ties advanced—, there was no Spanish qualification despite the final push from several of our players. A narrow course, demanding greens, and a tightly packed leaderboard until the last moment left the national representation out. It’s time to turn the page and look to the next venues. Those who missed out are Víctor García Broto, Esteban Vázquez, and Pablo Riveiro. García Broto, the best Spaniard, was eleven shots off the target.
There is still one last tournament of this first stage in France. It will be played next week and will feature four Spaniards: Álvaro Velasco, Manuel Ballesteros, Jaume Batllé, and Sergio Parriego.
The Second Stage will once again be a very tough filter before the Final in Tarragona. There, the coveted playing categories for 2026 are distributed. Borda arrives with his homework done and rising confidence.
