David Puig has confirmed to Ten Golf his firm intention to play the Open de España and the Estrella Damm Andalucía Masters, the two tournaments of the DP World Tour that are held in our country at the end of September and in October. The Catalan golfer has always wanted to play in Spain, in fact he already did as an amateur at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid in 2021, he made the cut and finished in 34th place. However, in recent years he has had the door closed to possible invitations due to his membership in the LIV Golf circuit.

However, this year he will not need any invitation. The young player from La Garriga enters the two tournaments by national ranking, so no one can prevent his participation. The only doubt he had was whether to become a member of the DP World Tour in order to play in both tournaments. Puig has no problem with this, a priori, but obviously, as things stand, with the existing tension between the European circuit and the Saudi league, and the fines that are already reaching the LIV golfers who are still members of the DP World Tour, such as Jon Rahm or Joaco Niemann, it would be putting himself in a complicated situation that is not worth it at the moment.

However, Ten Golf has consulted with the DP World Tour and the answer has been emphatic. Puig does not need to become a member of the circuit to play the two tournaments if he does not want to. It is a situation very similar to the one experienced every year with tournaments in South Africa or Australia, where many players access by national ranking and do not need to register with the DP World Tour.

So, unless there is a radical change of plans by the Catalan player, the Spanish fans will have the opportunity to see him in action in up to three different tournaments: LIV de Valderrama, Open de España and Estrella Damm Andalucía Masters. This is, without a doubt, a very important extra incentive for all these events.

Puig could coincide with Rahm in two or three of these tournaments. Of course, both are going to play in Valderrama, among other things because their contract says so, but there is also the possibility that they will be at the Open de España and in Sotogrande. Rahm has not ruled out anything. His presence in Madrid seems difficult due to the birth of his third child, scheduled for that week, but if it were to happen earlier, we should not rule out seeing him in all three tournaments, and if not, in Sotogrande.
