Eugenio López Chacarra has announced that he is stepping away from competition to take care of his mental health. The Madrid golfer made it public on his social media, through a message posted on his Instagram profile. Chacarra has stated that, for now, he is withdrawing from the Magical Kenya Open, the next tournament on the DP World Tour schedule, which will take place next week and for which he was registered until a few hours ago.

Let’s remember that Chacarra revealed some back problems in the first tournament of the year, the Dubai Invitational, to the point that he seriously considered withdrawing before going out to play the second round. However, he has now made it clear in his message that it is not a physical problem, but rather related to the mental aspect. It also doesn’t seem to be related to technical issues.

In any case, this decision coincides with a poor run of play. It hasn’t been the best start to 2026 for the Wake Forest and Oklahoma player. His best result was at the Dubai Invitational, where he finished in 15th place, although it was a reduced field tournament with no cut. After that, he missed the cut at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and last week at the Qatar Masters and finished in 41st place in Bahrain.

Eugenio has not specified how long this break from competition will last. Obviously, he will have to see how things progress over time. However, he concludes his message with a hopeful: “I’ll be back soon.” The DP World Tour calendar doesn’t stop. Next week is the aforementioned tournament in Kenya, followed by two consecutive weeks in South Africa, and then the Asian Swing in China, India, where he defends the title he won last year, and Turkey.

Here is Chacarra’s full message:

After a lot of reflection and many conversations with my team, I’ve made the difficult decision to withdraw from the Kenya Open.

This hasn’t been easy to accept. Lately, the biggest challenge hasn’t been physical – it’s been mental. I believe in being honest about the ups and downs, and right now I need time to reset, heal, and take care of my mind so I can come back stronger, healthier, and truly ready to compete.

It hurts to step away from competing that’s what I most love , but sometimes the strongest thing you can do is listen to yourself.

Thank you everyone for all the love, patience, and support – it means more than you know. I’ll be back soon. ❤️
