False start at the Porsche Singapore Classic

The third wave of the monsoon has left us without golf this Thursday at the Porsche Singapore Classic. The game has not started. Not even a shot has been played. The continuous and persistent rains have left the Laguna National Golf Resort flooded and unplayable. Shortly after three in the morning, Spanish peninsular time, seven hours ahead on the Asian island, the DP World Tour issued a statement confirming the cancellation of the first round.

As it stands, they will attempt to start the tournament on Friday with the same schedule as Thursday. The problem is that the weather forecast remains quite poor. For now, the DP World Tour has not officially confirmed the reduction of the tournament to 54 holes, but it really seems like a fantasy to reach 72. In fact, almost everyone is now signing off on the possibility of completing 54. The situation doesn’t look good.

The Porsche Singapore Classic is the first tournament of the Asian swing of the European circuit. In the coming weeks, it will visit India and China twice, with a stop in between for the Masters at Augusta. It is the third swing of the year on the calendar, after the Opening and the International.
