The second round of the Danish Golf Championship could not be completed today as planned. The reason: sustained winds that have exceeded 65 kilometres per hour. Crazy. Just before five in the afternoon came the first suspension, with the afternoon shift suffering terribly. Just three quarters of an hour later the DP World Tour announced the definitive suspension. There will be no more golf until tomorrow. It returns on Saturday at eight in the morning and the third round is expected to start at 11.30, with the players coming out of the two tees and three by three.
What was being experienced at the Lubker Golf Resort before the horns sounded was a real slaughter. Bogeys everywhere. Except for Manuel Quirós (+3). Impressive what the Malaga player did. His partial was three under par after seven holes. Moreover, at the moment when it was blowing the most, just before suspending, he was able to make a birdie on the 7th, putting a putt of more than nine metres. He was the third best player on the course, after Andy Sullivan (-2), five under in thirteen holes, and Romain Langasque (-4), four under in eleven. Also three under on the day was the young Jacob Slov Olesen (-2), winner of the British Amateur. He had nine holes.
As for the classification, obviously it is not definitive until the second round is completed tomorrow, but we can advance that the equality is brutal. The table is very tight. There are 21 players separated by only two strokes. In fact, there are five leaders tied at -5: Rasmus Hojgaard and Frederic Lacroix, still with holes to play, and Adrien Saddier, Kristoffer Reitan and Rasmus Neergaard Petersen, with their round finished.
The Armada is not having its best week. Rafa Cabrera Bello (-2) and Manuel Quirós (+3) or Santi Tarrio (+3) are fighting to avoid total shipwreck. Of those who have completed their round only Iván Cantero (+2) has some chance of making the cut, although his chances have been diminished with this afternoon’s suspension. It was when the conditions were most difficult. We’ll see what the weather is like tomorrow.
The best of all is Rafa. The Canary Islander started with a great birdie on hole 1, after another sensational recovery from the rough. The trend of this week in Denmark. Then, when the worst came, with more wind, he survived as best he could, saving good pars and even leaving behind some good birdie option like on the 2nd. Finally, two bogeys came in the middle of the hurricane, on the 7th with a three-putt and on the 8th after sending his second shot into the water. A good bogey. The suspension came just when he had a putt of just over eight metres for birdie on the 9th.
As for the rest of the Armada, Otaegui, Campillo, Sebas García, Vacarisas and Moscatel have already missed the cut for sure and Nacho and Manu Elvira, García Heredia and Arnaus have it very complicated. The goal is, at least, to reach +2, and both Alfredo and Adri are +6, Manu +7 and Nacho +8.
