Bryson DeChambeau will compete again in a DP World Tour event before the end of 2026. And he will do so on a very special stage. The American has confirmed his presence at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, which will be played from 3 to 6 December at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City, in South Africa, one of the first events of the 2027 season of the European circuit.
The news was announced by Gary Player himself, host of a tournament held in his honour, via his social media. The legendary South African golfer posted a video alongside DeChambeau in which it is the Crushers GC player from LIV Golf who clears up any doubt about his presence in Sun City: “Mr Player, it’s official. I’m coming back to South Africa to play your tournament, the Nedbank Golf Challenge”
The response from Gary perfectly reflects the importance the tournament places on the presence of one of the biggest stars of world golf. “We are very excited. What you did in Steyn City was extraordinary. We hadn’t seen other players do anything like that. They adored you, as they do around the world, and you coming back to play my tournament is a great honour,2″ the South African says during the conversation.

Player also accompanied the announcement with a message on his social media in which he publicly celebrated Bryson‘s inclusion in the tournament: “I’m absolutely delighted that Bryson is going to compete this year in the Nedbank Golf Challenge” The South African highlighted the connection the American managed to establish with the fans during his previous visit to the country and described him as “a true global golf champion”
The host of the Nedbank even joked about how well the Sun City layout can suit the American’s characteristics. “I think you’ll find a course you’ll love. It’s long, so it will suit you very well”, Player told him, before anticipating the reaction his presence will provoke: “People are going to be extremely excited when they find out you’re coming”
It will be DeChambeau‘s second competitive visit to South Africa in just nine months. The first couldn’t have gone better. Last March he was crowned champion of LIV Golf‘s debut in the country after defeating Jon Rahm in a playoff at Steyn City. A victory and, above all, a popular reception that Gary Player has now used as one of the reasons to bring the American to Sun City
DeChambeau‘s presence also represents an important coup for the Nedbank Golf Challenge, one of the historic tournaments on the European calendar. The competition was born in 1981 and names such as Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Ernie Els, Sergio García, Retief Goosen, Jim Furyk, Lee Westwood o Tommy Fleetwood have passed through its roll of honour. The 2026 edition will distribute $6 million and will form part of the Opening Swing of the Race to Dubai 2027
The reigning champion is the Norwegian Kristoffer Reitan, who won the 2025 edition, and now the tournament adds one of the main attractions it could find in world golf. The confirmation also has a particularly interesting ingredient given DeChambeau‘s current situation. His contract with LIV Golf ends at the conclusion of this season and his future from 2027 onwards remains one of the big unknowns on the market
Aside from what ultimately happens with his link to the circuit, what is already official is that Bryson will play again under the umbrella of the DP World Tour in December. Outside of LIV, since his departure from the PGA Tour and excepting majors, he has only played a couple of events of the International Series of the Asian Tour. Now he returns. And not to just any tournament. He will do so invited by Gary Player himself, on the course that bears his name and after having won over the South African public on his first visit to the country.
