The first two tournaments of the first phase of the European Tour School finished this Friday. One was played in England, at the The Players Club, and the other in Italy, at the Golf Nazionale in Rome. The final balance is that one of the seven Spaniards has managed to move on to the second phase.

This is Mario Galiano, who takes all the glory in Italy, after completing a more than notable week of golf. Not only has he passed, but he has done so with solvency. He has signed four rounds of 72, 65, 71 and 71, with no less than 21 birdies to his credit and a total of -9. He finished in fifth place. Brilliant. 19 and tied were classified.

The drama has been for Javier Calles, a Madrid golfer who turned professional in 2024, after finishing university in the United States, and who has competed in different tournaments of the Clutch Pro Tour, former EuroPro Tour of the United Kingdom. He played at The Players Club and missed out by one stroke after signing two bogeys in the last two holes.

The rest of the Spaniards who also did not pass this first phase are Sigot López, who also missed by a single stroke in Italy, although he finished his round with two birdies, Marc Sabriá, David Salgado, Asier Aguirre and Scott Ferrnández, who paid dearly for a very bad first round in England.

In these first two tournaments, a player like Tiger Christensen, a promising German amateur, has qualified, while Lorenzo Gagli has been left out. By nationalities, ten Americans, seven Italians and nine English have passed. As for the chapter of amateurs, a total of three have made it to the second phase, all of them in Italy.
