The first stage of the DP World Tour School is underway and, after the first 36 holes in Sweden and England, two Spaniards keep their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals intact. At their respective venues, Gonzalo Leal (-1) and Scott Fernández (-3) are currently in positions that would grant access to the second stage, although there are still two rounds to play and the competition promises to be tight.
At Arlandastad Golf (Sweden), Gonzalo Leal carded a 68 on Wednesday, allowing him to sit at a total of -1, in ninth place on the leaderboard. The Andalusian currently has a small safety margin, as the top 17 and ties qualify, but he will need to maintain his level in the last two rounds. At the same venue, Asier Aguirre (+3) is just three shots off the target, while Carlos del Moral (+5) still has a chance to make a comeback. The situation is more challenging for José Luis Aldarraga (+9), who would need an almost perfect result, while Ignacio Gómez Osuna (+11) is out of the race after missing the cut.
Meanwhile, at Donnington Grove (England), Scott Fernández is in 15th place with a total of -3, which would place him within the provisional cut. The player from Granada remains steady and has a chance to return to a second stage of the School he knows well. In contrast, his compatriot Alberto Domínguez (+7) finds it almost impossible. José Luis García (+13) has bowed out at the first hurdle.
Following the recent successes of Borja Martín and Pablo Ereño, who have already secured their place in the semi-finals, Spain seeks to expand its representation in an always demanding School. Leal and Fernández keep the dream alive, but they must finish the job in the last two rounds.
