El DP World Tour faces this week in Abu Dhabi the first of the two big events that will bring the 2026 season to a close. The Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship, played at Yas Links, brings together the top players from the Race to Dubai in a tournament that, besides being decisive for the standings ahead of next week’s grand final, awards a spectacular US$9 million prize fund. An amount that makes the Emirati event one of the most lucrative on the European Tour schedule.
The top prize will go to the tournament winner, who will receive a cheque of US$1,530,000, equivalent to €1,368,162.72 according to the official prize table published by the DP World Tour. The runner-up will also not leave empty-handed as he will pocket US$990,000, while the player who completes the podium will take home US$567,000.
The amounts remain especially high in the top positions. Fourth will receive US$450,000 and fifth US$381,600. Even the golfer who finishes tenth will take home US$180,000, while the twentieth will receive US$108,000.
The prize money distribution extends to the 70 positions included in the official table, with a prize of US$17,100 for the last place. These amounts correspond to the distribution planned by position, before possible adjustments resulting from ties in the final standings.
A key tournament for the Race to Dubai
Beyond the important financial incentive, the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship plays a fundamental role in deciding the DP World Tour season. It is the first of the two Playoffs events and offers its participants a final opportunity to improve their positions ahead of the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, which will close the calendar.
The winner will earn 1,500 points for the Race to Dubai, while the runner-up will receive 1,000 and third 565. Fourth will get 450 and fifth 381. A distribution that can cause significant movements in the standings and be decisive both for the battle for the title and for the season’s privileged positions, especially the top 10 that offer PGA Tour cards for 2027.
With US$9 million at stake and an overall classification still to be decided, Abu Dhabi becomes the setting for one of the most important weeks of the year for the players on the European circuit.
